She was tired. Just flat out tired. She was tired of everyone getting on her about this or that. She was tired of the late nights up until 3am, and than waking up at 7am, only four hours later. She was tired of living alone, in a house that was too big for just her. Maybe tired wasn't the right word. Exhausted would probably fit better for her situation. She was exhausted from working for 4pm until 11pm at night at the local bookstore to keep change in her pocket. Not that technically she really needed the money.

At the age of just barely 19, she was left a large amount of money from her one and only grandmother. Her grandmother had one daughter, who died in a fire along with the son-in-law who she told her daughter would be the death of her, and he was. Her grandmother then ended up officially taking care of her granddaughter at the age of 12. Just when she was about to hit the great old years of teenager.

                                     ~~

Mary didn't mind taking care of Rose at all. She had practically taken care of her since her birth since Louise and Wendy were always out and partying, living off of her money. Little Rose didn't ask for much growing up, was always the polite little girl, an A student, Honor Society, everything that Wendy wasn't. So of course she was going to leave Rose the money left from her grandmother.

Mary's grandmother was a rich woman. How she got the money, Mary never asked her nor did she ask her mother. She just accepted it as it was. Occasionally Mary's grandmother would hint at things, and give her good sound advice to keep the money going, but that was about it.

Than upon growing up, Mary married her husband Tom, who was a working machine. All he did was work work work. That itself maybe a big reason for Wendy's decisions later on in life. She always did look up to Tom and crave his attention, but as she got older she got it less and less and so leaned onto a more troubled path. Finally she met Louise, had Rose, and left Mary to take care of baby Rose most of the time as they went out to parties and the sort.

Than the one day 6 years ago on August 20th, there was a fire at one of Louise's friends house. Wendy and Louise were celebrating their friend's birthday at the time.  Rose was 12 at the time of their death. She dealt with it well for her age.

Mary raised Rose until Rose was 18. A few days after Rose's graduation party, Mary took ill and died a few days later, leaving her with a large sum of money to get her through life.

Rose placed her book bag at the foot of her king sized bed, and then threw herself face down up on the bed, which was a two feet off the ground. She sighed out loud, hearing how small her voice sounded in the large bedroom. It sounded alone. No noises of her grandmother making dinner for her in the too big kitchen. No siblings feet running across the top of the stairwell. No noisy neighbors. Nothing. Just her. In her room alone.

She flipped over onto her back and pulled her self further up on the bed. She looked out at her walls. They were still the same shade of sky blue that she painted them when she turned 14. The only thing that changed were the posters on her walls, and the pictures she decorated them with. Instead of pictures of Bratz, and movie stars. She still had posters of movie stars, but she had band posters, and nature pictures that covered her walls.

Also, her bookshelf that she painted black when she was 15 and rebelling was filled to the brim with personal books. She could pick out any book in the shelf by touch and position on the the bookcase alone.

Once again she sighed, so tired from the day. College was draining her quickly. It was nothing like High School. She thought that the AP classes would prepare her for the work, but really it didn't. In AP classes you have a chance to talk to the teacher, and they know your name. At her college, they didn't give a fuck if you passed or failed, they didn't know your name. They just wanted her money. Even though when she signed up for the particular college, it promised one on one attention, and smaller classrooms size.

"What a bunch of bullshit," she thought to herself. I should of listened to her Nan. Nan told her not to go there, and that there were a lot of other colleges that were even better that she should looked at. But no, she had to have her way. All her friends were going to the college she chose, so she wanted to go too. It turned out that all her friends tried to get into the college, and failed, utterly. So now she was stuck with a few of the more stuck up people that wanted to associate with her, just because they knew that she had a lot of money. Thanks to her Nan, who always thanked her Grandmother.

Rose checked the sleek, silver watch that was on her wrist. 2:22pm. Enough time to get a quick nap before she went into work at the local bookstore.

She pulled up her light purple comforter up over her head, as she snuggled down into the bed. Feeling sleep pull at her eyes quickly. She pulled out her top of the line cell phone, and put her alarm on for 3:40pm. That way she would have enough time to get into her car, and drive to the bookstore that was only 10 minutes away.

Soon she surrendered to her much needed sleep. Dreaming of dogs, husbands and babies.
